A back view of the cape., James Gillray, 1792

A fashionably dressed man stands in back view, a round hat in his hand, a bludgeon under his left arm. He wears a tail-coat with a large cape-like collar with revers. Above this appears the high stiff collar at the back of his waistcoat. His hair falls on his coat collar and his shoulders are frosted with hair-powder (a fashion of the day), cf. Bmsats 7537, 8192. He wears half-boots and breeches tied below the knee with a bunch of strings. 23 march 1792 hand-coloured etching. Date: 1792. Dimensions: Height: 281 mm; Width: 217 mm. Medium: paper.
