iconographic description:
physics and astronomy office of king louis xv, hotel, 84, rue de passy, 16th arrondissement. 17th century urban architecture, character. Entrance to the hotel: wooden french window, glass transom, two floors, high windows and dormer windows, venetian blinds, arcade, stone cladding, slits at the corners. Entablature, cornice. Fenced garden, low wall, vegetation, trees, plants, autumn. Decoration (redesigned?) of the building: mascarons, wrought iron balconies, lattice windows. Women in period dress. Drop shadow. Historical commentary:
hotel acquired in 1751 by madame de pompadour and bought by louis xv in 1761. Louis xvi transferred it to the observatory in 1790. The hotel adjoins the château de la muette. Cf j.
