three protagonists with human silhouettes and animal heads compose this scene. In the center, a man with the head of a canary, a music box around his neck, dressed like a gavroche with cap and scarf around his neck, laughs and with a gesture threatens to slap another character with the head of a blackbird and dressed very poorly who turns his face towards him. On the left, an even poorer man bends down to pick up rubbish scattered on the road with a stick and which he will no doubt put in the basket he carries on his back. He is represented with a porcine head. Extract from métamorphoses du jour (editions gustave havard libraire, paris, 1854): "when the blackbird wants to blame, he hisses; when he wants to approve, he hisses again; the blackbird always hisses; this inconvenience or this advantage, whatever you want to call it"
