Colmasino fight, reduced, retouched, lithograph. On 29 may 1848, the austrian infantry brigade commanded by colonel friedrich zobel, sent to break the siege of peschiera, was stopped by only two companies of bersaglieri, one of which was made up of student bersaglieri, led by captain roccabadati. Perched in the town of colmasino, without artillery, the volunteers resisted strenuously for hours until the arrival of reinforcements, inflicting serious losses on the austrians and proving determined to surrender the fortress of peschiera, which fell the following day. The illustration shows the final phase of the battle in which the austrians are pushed back and pressed by the arrival of the infantrymen of the 2nd division, commanded by general michele bes. Date: circa 1860.
