Miniature portrait of sir james hamlyn, 1st baronet (1735-1811) of edwinsford, carmarthenshire, wales, and clovelly court in devon, member of parliament for carmarthen 1793-1802 and sheriff of devon 1767-8. School of richard cosway, ra (british, 1742-1821). A full-length double portrait on paper by cosway of the hamlyns, walking arm in arm and wearing van dyck costume, exists in the victoria & albert museum (e. 11-2002). Gold frame with pierced suspension loop, blue glass to the reverse. Oval, 85mm (3 3/8in) high. One of pair with matching portrait of his wife, arabella williams (1740-1797). Sold for £1,375 inc.
