Skärgårdsfregatten - Björn Järnsida, Elias Martin, 1 January 1785

Detail of watercolor done by elias martin around the year 1785, showing the finnish galley squadron of the armén fleet off vaxholm. Here we see the archipelago frigate björn järnsida, which was originally built in 1774 in karlskrona by the shipbuilder af chapman. It is of the turuma type. Several dinghies and espings can be seen around the frigate. The watercolor is named at the bottom as "weu af waxholm och finska galär esqadern" and signed with "signerad e martin pinxit. No 13". The watercolor belonged to crown prince gustaf adolf and crown princess margareta. Date: 1 January 1785.
