Watercolor painting by english mormon artist frederick piercy, documenting his journey to utah in 1853. The drawing depicts the room at the carthage, illinois jail in which joseph smith and his brother, hyrum smith, were incarcerated. Several of piercy's works, including this one, were reproduced as prints in his "route from liverpool to great salt lake valley," published in 1855.
