Hugo allard (d. 1691): totius neobelgii nova et accuratissima tabula (detail), amsterdam c. 1674 this inset map of allards totius neobelgii nova et accuratissima tabula shows the city of nieuw amsterdam (new york). In contrast to the map novi belgii novæque angliæ – drawn by nicolaes visscher in 1656 (see the detail) – allard shows a greatly expanded city. The inscription reads "new amsterdam, recently called new york (nieuw jorck), and now retaken by the netherlanders 24 aug 1673". On the seventh state of this map (issued by r & j ottens around 1725) there's been added: at last handed over to the english again. Date: Circa 1674.
