Now i want to devote myself entirely to you. Dear mum, you know how much i would like to be with you on sunday, your special day. Unfortunately it is different. I don’t need to mention my love and gratitude, you know that. I would have liked to give you something nice, but you know how it is. I just want to tell you that my whole heart and my whole thoughts are with you, especially on this special day. I ask our lord every day to keep you healthy and for a long time. But you must promise me to eat well and not to offend yourself too much. I'm still fine. Date: 15 May 1942.
