The ballerina ekaterina vazem (1838-1947), première danseuse of the st. Petersburg imperial theatres, costumed for the role of nikiya in the choreographer marius petipa (1818-1910) and composer ludwig minkus's (1826-1917) ballet "la bayadère". The ballet was created especially for her and was first presented for her benefit performance at the imperial bolshoi kamenny theatre of st. Petersburg on 4 february [o. S. 23 january] 1877.
