Daguerreotype view of barcelona in 1848. One of the first daguerreotypes preserved in spain. "the view is a specular symetry of the actual view, fact that happened in the original daguerreotypes". It has appeared in three enciclopedic books of photography as "view of the house xifré" (sic), but actually it's the neighboring "casa vidal quadras", barcelona. The image is reversed laterally (essential point to realize that it is not the xifré house at all). Furthermore, casa xifré has a completely rectangular plant, with squared corners without chanfrain, and between the arches it's richly decorated with medallions and other decorative motifs. Therefore this one it is not the "casa xifré". Without doubt, it`s the house vidal quadras, also built by an "indiano" (former migrant enriched in america). It can be verified pretty well by "surfing" on google maps, in barcelona, passeig d'isabel ii, covering all porches and arches at street level, and from the top.
