Attributed to gilbert stuart (england and america 1755-1828) portrait of judge thomas dawes, jr. (1758-1825) boston, c. 1806. Unsigned. Oil on panel, the judge with his direct gaze is seated in an armchair with gilding and red upholstery on which he rests his right arm, sight size 32 x 25 1/2 in. , in an identical original gilt leaf-carved frame as the previous lot. Condition: cleaned, minor inpainting and revarnishing. Provenance: judge thomas dawes jr. Is the son of colonel thomas dawes, in the previous lot. The provenance is identical to that lot. Deaccessioned from the new bedford whaling museum-old dartmouth historical society, proceeds to benefit the acquisition and conservation fund. Date: circa 1806.
