The kabuki actors nakamura utaemon iv as shikaki shinsuke (left), and bando shuka as his wife o-noto (right) holding up a painting of shoki, both standing in front of a palanquin under a blossoming plum tree; scene from the play 'aoto-banashi', performed at the ichimura theatre on the seventeenth day of the first month, kaei 2 (1849).
