Annotated studies of the destroyers 'F14' in the Firth of Forth, with Arthur's Seat beyond, and 'F4' off the Bass Rock RMG PV0062, William Lionel Wyllie, 1917
Annotated studies of the destroyers 'f14' in the firth of forth, with arthur's seat beyond, and 'f4' off the bass rock
the watercolour study at the top looks south towards edinburgh. The number f14 written below it is presumably the pendant number of the three-stacker destroyer immediately above, which would be either the 'oriana' or the 'paladin'. They were both admiralty m-class destroyers launched in 1916: 'oriana' was allocated pendant f14 from january 1917 to january 1918 and 'paladin' had this number from january to april 1918. The lower sketch, in pencil, with f04 under it shows the admiralty modified r-class destroyer 'urchin', launched in 1917, off the bass rock (inscribed 'the bass' by the artist). She carried the pendant f04 from january 1918 to 1922. Date: 1917. Dimensions: 252 mm x 353 mm. Collection: Fine art.
