Daughter of sir charles du cane (1825-1889), british governor of tasmania, she later returned with her family to england, settling in braxted park, essex and exhibiting for the first time at the prestigious new society of painters in wather colours, in 1893, garnering the admiration of queen victoria (1819-1901), who among ten. 1895 and aug. 1898, acquired 26 works from him.
