Kylix di Eufronio, dettaglio (4) - Cerveteri

Kylix of euphronius. Meeting between helen and menelaus in the presence of eros who disarms the king of sparta (we see the latter's sword falling to the ground) initially intending to avenge his wife's betrayal. The upper part of the scene, with the face of menelaus and the trunk of eros, belongs to a fragment found after the assembly of the various parts of the kylix by the getty museum where it was located before the return of the artefact to the italian state. This last fragment - also now preserved in the cerveteri museum - has not yet been integrated into the rest of the reconstruction of the kylix: the image published here is a graphic elaboration that compares the upper fragment to the lower part of the meeting between helen and menelaus, the latter already included in the getty museum assemblage. Date: 500-490 a.C.
