A First World War petrol or water carrier, probably 'Petrobus' or 'Petrella' RMG PV0813, William Lionel Wyllie, circa 1918
A first world war petrol or water carrier, probably 'petrobus' or 'petrella'
a port-bow study of one of three sister vessels lying at a mooring with white cliffs beyond. All were built by dunlop, bremner & co ltd at port glasgow in 1917-18. The 'petrobus' (yard number 316) and 'petrella' (yard number 317) were petrol carriers and the 'petronel' (yard number 318) was a water carrier. This one flies a red flag (for inflammable material) which suggests she may be one of the first two. Date: circa 1918. Dimensions: 252 mm x 354 mm. Collection: Fine art.
