The canvas represents the praying group of emperor charles i of spain (1500-1558), and his family, which is located on the gospel side of the basilica of the escorial monastery and was carved in the 16th century by the italian goldsmith and sculptor pompeo leoni. Furthermore, charles i and his relatives are buried in said monastery, although in the pantheon of kings and not in the basilica. Object Type: painting. Date: 1599.
