Häme customs post at north end of pitkäsilta. Watercolour. Roads leading to helsinki ended at customs posts at the borders of the city. These were the häme customs post at the main bridge of the vironniemi peninsula (the location to which helsinki was moved in 1640), and originally situated on the south side of the bridge, and the espoo customs post, which was still, in the 1700s, situated at the market square end of what is now the south esplanade. During the time of russian rule the customs posts were equipped with a barrier and sentry box, as there were russian soldiers in helsinki at the time. Date: 1837.
