WH Taft private study

WH Taft private study

Photo of president taft's private study, today known as the treaty room. The flag in the back is a presidential flag from the army (the navy had a separate version) with 46 stars, which was used starting in 1908 before changing to a 48-star version in 1912. The painting on the wall on the left is signing of the peace protocol between spain and the united states, august 12, 1898 by théobald chartran,[1] an event which took place in this room, and the painting still hangs there. The desk in front is the resolute desk. Date: circa 1912 (per this page).
