Gjøngehøvdingen 128, Poul Steffensen

Illustration by poul steffensen from the danish novel gjøngehøvdingen by carit etlar which takes place during and after the dano-swedish war in 1657-1658. Ib abelsøn, his sister ane marie, her husband svend poulsen, gøngehøvdingen and their little son. Ane marie has just come back and svend poulsen wants to make it good after realising her sufferings. But she reveals that she has been shot and deadly wounded. It turns out that the murder was kulsoen who mistook her for ib abelsøn because she was wearing her hat and cape as protection against the rain. Svend poulsen (app. 1610 - app. 1679) was a real person but the story is fiction. The look of svend poulsen is also fantasy as there are no known portraits of him. Date: Original illustration from the 1890s, here reprint from 1909..
