The Seikh Yard Battery, Robert Kent Thomas, 1 October 1858

The Seikh Yard Battery, Robert Kent Thomas, 1 October 1858

Plate 16. The seikh yard battery. These are the two nine-pounders which were brought to bear upon the breach in the seik yard, which formed the subject of sketch ho. 13. The embrasures were made in a wall about fifty yards in rear of the breach; and as the guns completely commanded it, and were always kept double-loaded with grape, the enemy would have been sure of a warm reception. It was their knowledge of this fact that probably prevented their making any further serious attempts to storm the breach. A plate from sketches & incidents of the siege of lucknow. From drawings made during the siege, by clifford henry mecham, lieutenant madras army, with descriptive notices by george couper, esq. Late secretary to the chief commissioner of oude. First edition, tinted lithographed title with vignette, 27 views on 17 tinted lithographed plates, folio, day & son, published 1 oct 1858. Object Type: print. Date: 1 October 1858. Place of creation: London. Dimensions: height: 57 cm (22.4 in); width: 37 cm (14.5 in). Medium: lithograph. P15. The Seikh Yard Battery (cropped)
