Context: "the bottom half of the horse picture was done after moving to 7ap and i could not get the feeling i wanted. The road i know is bad. " (extract from a letter of 14 june 1918). Image: a view of an italian village street with a british artillery team stationary at the roadside whilst a french artillery column moves past. Two pairs of horses, with two mounted british soldiers, stand at the roadside. Beyond them three pairs of horses pull a french gun and limber, though only the french gunners in their horizon blue uniforms are fully visible. An italian woman and two girls stand in the foreground, whilst buildings of the village are visible in the background. Date: 1918 (First World War).
