General Gabriel Christie 1722-1799, David Martin

General gabriel christie (1722-1799), oil on canvas a soldier born in england, gabriel christie participated in the siege of quebec in 1759. In 1763, he was named major general. Son of a rich scottish merchant, he had a large fortune and thus became the owner of several fiefs and lordships in the montreal region. He participates in the trade in forest products through the exploitation of resources from his lordships. He married sarah stevenson, daughter of a noted loyalist family. Date: fin XVIIIe siècle.
