The work represents the virgin mary imposing the chasuble on archbishop san ildefonso of toledo, and it is possible that it formed part of an altarpiece, although also, due to its small format, it could have been made for private devotion. The careful treatment, the refined lighting and the wooden support are characteristic of this type of work. In it the saint kneels and receives the chasuble from the hands of the virgin.
