Left for paris in 1889, he followed courses at both the school of decorative arts and those of fine arts in the workshop of gustave moreau. Upon his return, in 1893, he created vase decorations at the daum factory. He set up on his own in 1897, specializing in glass and stained glass, becoming in 1901 one of the founders and masters of the nancy school. His technical innovations contribute to the originality of his works which can be found in many nancy houses. In 1914, he returned to paris and moved away from his art nouveau period, becoming one of the main recognized artists of the art deco movement. He thus participated in the international exhibition of modern decorative and industrial arts in paris in 1925. In the “french village”, a sort of garden city ephemerally evoking an ideal place, he worked among others with hector guimard at the “maison du tisserand” and created a stained glass window for the dining room, composed of seven panels. Grüber uses a fairly exotic theme, monkeys, rather surprising in the context intended for it. It seems to prefigure the colonial exhibition which will follow in 1931. The artist is at the peak of his art, mastering new techniques: working with plated glass, use of cabochons, testimony to the richness of the materials. A unique presentation, this stained glass window returns at the end of the exhibition to the artist's studio, who was able to show that he was truly one of the masters of modern stained glass. Grüber participated in the creation of the stained glass windows in the reading room of the carnegie library in reims. [c. Delot, 2017]. Date: 1925.
