Rose Nord Cathédrale de Laon 181008 06, Louis Charles Auguste Steinheil

Auguste steinheil, rhetoric (1865), medallion of the rose window of the north transept of the notre-dame cathedral of laon: the rose of the liberal arts. The medallions represent the seven liberal arts, to which medicine and philosophy have been added (central medallion). The stained glass window dates from 1200 to 1210, but four medallions were made by auguste steinheil in 1865 (philosophy, rhetoric, music, medicine); he took up the figures of the voussures of a portal of the façade, also dedicated to the liberal arts (source: website of the ministry of culture).
