Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1943-10-03) letter no. 194 (1943-10-12) next letter (1943-10-13) iv in our platoon, we are 27 men, we had 4 cows, 12 horses, 18 chickens and also sheep. Half of the platoon was mounted on the march! how often have i thought of home, here the dead pigs lay on the street and at home they are missing. So we certainly did not go hungry, every day we ate ducks, geese or chickens. Even today there is still enough, the food is very plentiful [see also hunger plan]! now we are sitting [in a quiet position again. ]. Date: 12 October 1943.
