historical commentary:
the royal abbey for girls, of the order of cîteaux, built in the 17th century, was abolished during the revolution, then reopened from 1807, by the augustinian canonesses, who transformed it into a retirement home, a boarding school and a free school. Me récamier lived there for thirty years and held his salon frequented by chateaubriand, lamartine, delacroix, balzac, hugo, tocquevile, musset, stendhal. . . The ensemble des bâtiments was demolished in 1906-1907, during the construction of rue récamier and the extension of boulevard raspail.
