Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (10/18/1944) letter no. 289 (10/19/1944) next letter (10/23/1944) you don't need to worry about flying with me; as i said, we only fly over here like in blankenburg. Now this time here is coming to an end; it was and still is a wonderful time. You could relax straight away, if not in terms of food, as there is little of it everywhere these days, then at least in the area and "lazing around". We drove around a lot and studied in the classrooms, so i didn't do anything physically strenuous. On october 25th we're heading back to blankenburg. I'm looking forward to seeing old friends again there too. Today i'm on duty as an officer, so i have to stay here, but that doesn't matter because it's raining outside and it's slowly getting cold. - thanks again for the stamps and please don't forget to send me something to smoke, i'm completely burned out! so, my mom, stay healthy and please be careful! best wishes and kisses from your hansl. Please write to blankenburg again now. Date: 19 October 1944.
