On april 4, 1866, d. V. Karakozov, who had been expelled from moscow university for non-payment, made an unsuccessful attempt on the life of emperor alexander ii after the latter was walking in the summer garden. Tragedy was avoided thanks to the heroic act of the kostroma peasant o. I. Komissarov, who pushed away the terrorist's hand, for which he was subsequently ennobled with the surname komissarov-kostromskoy.
