In the foreground, hamlet, supported by horatio, lies dying, wounded by a sword tipped in poison; in the centre ground, three men carry the dead body of laertes, also poisoned by the sword, and look to left at the slumped body of gertrude, supported by another figure, the cup of poison (which claudius had intended for hamlet) on a table in front of her. 1843.
