In the fall of 1913, anders zorn was commissioned to paint mr. And mrs. Piltz. Carl piltz was a successful and art-interested pharmacist and, like so many others from stockholm society, wanted to have his and his wife's portraits painted by the popular zorn. Mrs. Piltz sits in the auction's painting leaning against a high-backed chair. The evening light falls in from the left and makes the sequined black dress sparkle. Zorn has skillfully captured the sparkling jewelry and the flattering black silk dress. Mrs piltz is a woman in zorn's taste, curvy, strong and with healthy rosy cheeks. Her pale smooth arms create an effective contrast against the otherwise dull studio. A final interesting detail is that it is probably the same woven wallpaper in the fund for this portrait as in the famous painting "renaissance" painted by zorn in the same year.
