A young man, an itinerant musician, standing, three quarters, turned to right, dressed in a wide-brimnmed hat and tattered cloak and shirt, a wide strap or sash with a stud (?) across his chest, looks to right as he holds a violin in his left hand, resting it on his arm, the bow in his right hand; through an window to left, sun streaming through, a plant growing in from outside, on the ledge an ink pot with quill, papers and inscribed on the inner frame, within the image: "maria"; after gallait lithograph on chine collé.
