Gold turk's cap by dorothea maria merian based on motifs by maria sibylla merian, around 1705-1717 watercolor and opaque colors, parchment, 26. 2 x 19. 2 cm inv. No. Ix-8-162 last depiction in volume 3 of the caterpillar book. Depicted are the gold turk's cap (lilium hansonii), the foam cicada (philaenus spumarius), the woolly poodle (acronicta leporina), the currant geometer (semiothisa wauaria) carin grabowksi states that the depiction was composed by dorothea maria merian (as dorothea maria graff called herself at the time) with aesthetic aspects in mind. She would have followed her mother's instructions exactly, but worked in her own style in the painterly design. Date: circa 1705-1717.
