The Opening of the New Eddystone Lighthouse by HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, 18 May 1882, Henry Andrews Luscombe

The opening of the new eddystone lighthouse by hrh the duke of edinburgh, 18 may 1882 signed the new lighthouse, designed by sir james douglass, can be seen to the right of the older one, built by john smeaton. Smeaton's lighthouse was taken down and rebuilt on plymouth hoe. The duke was on board the galatea. The government steamships caron, trusty, and harpy, gaily dressed in flags and carrying members of the local authorities were in attendance.
