iconographic description:
pl. N°2 of the series “moral and political antics”. See pl. N°1 (pl. 154-155 of number 77). 1st vignette: a monkey painter perched on a high stool makes a preparatory drawing of a pear (louis-philippe) on a canvas, with a view to a cabaret sign. On the wall hangs a sheet with the drawing of a front eye and a large aquiline nose in profile (is this that of the count of argout?); 2nd vignette: a monkey approaches a monkey soldier and offers him to visit prostitutes; 3rd vignette: two monkeys fish for dupin's shoes; 4th vignette: a monkey (louis-philippe) handshakes to members of the people and the national guard; 5th vignette: a monkey sculptor checks the measurements of the nose of a model (count of argout) with a view to creating a bust. The sculptor monkey places his hand on the latter, already made. In the workshop, busts (left to right and top to bottom) of louis-philippe, the newspaper manager charles philipon, lobau, the designer eugène forest and the editor-in-chief auguste audibert are displayed on shelves. On the left of the count of argout, on the ground, is the bust of liberty (phrygian cap) ready to fall because of the cocked hat that this minister has placed on it. Person / character represented:
