Copenhagen harbour with the steamship Carl., Robert Panitzsch, 1944

The carl was built by motala varv in norrköping (yard no. 354), launched and delivered in 1884. It was delivered to ångfartygs-a/b linné, stockholm and got the name carl von linné. In 1898 it was bought by wasa nordsjö ångfartygs a/b, and then in 1911 by sverige-nord-finland. In 1913 it was sold to svea a/b stockholm. Came under danish colours in 1938, bought by det østbornholmske d/s a/s, nexø and named carl. Between 1939 and 1948 it served as the reserve ferry on the route between copenhagen and nexø. Sold in 1948 to dalifa a/s, copenhagen and in october of that year it foundered and sank in a hurricane near stora tärnskär, finland. Jmarcussen. Dk (in danish). Object Type: painting. Date: 1944.
