Although the year 1665 is stated in the title, archival research shows that the map was not completed until 1666 (see documentation). This card consisted of (from top to bottom): - a title strip (printed from one plate); - a large cityscape of rotterdam (printed from six plates, see dome record for a virtually edited version); - a map of the meuse (printed from four plates) with left and right cityscapes of maassluis, delfshaven, delft, schiedam, den briel and vlaardingen (printed from three plates, two on each plate); - (possibly) a description of rotterdam in letterpress (at least four different versions of this are known). The map was initially published by jacob quack. In any case, jan houwens (i) edited another edition in 1698 (dated in the description of rotterdam, he may have published the map earlier with a different variant of the description). As far as can be determined, the only change that houwens made to the plates is 'jan houwens excudit', on the ship at the bottom right of the cityscape of rotterdam (see rp-p-1894-a-18354. F).
