Matsuura-Byobu-by-Iwasa-Matabei, Iwasa Matabei, circa 1650

Pair of six-fold screens; color and gold on paper. It is called matsura byobu for its former owners, the matsura family, daimyo of hirado, in kyushu. Their name (and the name of this screen) is often written as matsuura, with two u's, but that is incorrect. Date: circa 1650. Dimensions: height: 153 cm (60.2 in); width: 363 cm (11.9 ft). Collection: Deutsch: Yamato Bunkakan.
