Feldpost von Hans 1935-08-16 Tante3, 16 August 1935

Field post letters from hans koch, vienna, world war ii, eastern front, 1922-1945 previous letter (1935-08-02) letter date (1935-08-16) next letter (1935-08-30) [it was and still is] unpleasant for me to think that you spent so much on me! i like hansi; that's why i asked his parents if he could come; so no gift from you would have been necessary to help me, as you say, "sweeten" the weeks with the boy! hansi is well-behaved and obedient, but unfortunately i have not been able to devote enough time to him so far because work is pressing on top of work and i am naturally quite weak, despite my "72 kg body weight". I was ill for many years and then had to fatten up those 72 kg for health reasons. However, i am also 1'72 m tall: all in all a pretty respectable personality. Hans doesn't bother us. He sleeps outside the house - but is housed with good people - and during the day, when the weather is good, he is always outside with other village boys. Once he could have gone to the alpe raaz [raaz alpine pasture] - brother thom and my sister jelena went up - but the boy didn't show much interest, probably because his feet hurt after a while in the shoes, which had become too small. So he preferred to stay at home and that is partly a good thing because long trips are not always useful for city children. The main thing is fresh air, enough farm food. Date: 16 August 1935.
