portrait of jean mariette (1660-1723), engraver to the king. Half-legged, standing, three-quarters to the left, the left arm leaning on the back of an armchair, a pencil in the hand, the right hand holding a drawing board placed on a piece of furniture. Historical commentary:
reverse engraving by contribution to painting (carp257). The date of mariette's death which appears on the printed text is incorrect: 1742 (instead of 1724)
