Arnesen was in east asia in 1899-1900 aboard the annam as part of a danish delegation, headed by h. N. Andersen of the east asiatic company, and he probably brought home a lot of sketches from the journey. (source: ole lange, den hvide elefant, gyldendal, copenhagen 1986, page 91). The annam was built by burmeister & wain in copenhagen in 1899 (yard no. 200) for the east asiatic company (øk). In 1902 she was sold to est asiatique francais s. A. , marseille and in 1904 sold on to messageries maritimes, marseille. Torpedoed and sunk by german submarine uc-35 in june 1917 west of sapienza island, greece. Miramarshipindex. Nz.
