The autograph below presents faehlmann's favourite maxime: "kurz ist das leben, doch lang die kunst", "the life is short, but(*) the art long(**)". That sentence was set on his grave in estonian later. (*) as a conjuction, mot as a preposition; (**) here meaning something like "eternal". Date: 1839.
