Bust of aesop, original art by ch. Kreutzberger, engraved by charles laplante, in the book vies des savants illustres, volume 1, by louis figuier, paris, 1866. The bust is after the ancient original from the villa albani (with a loincloth added to censor the figure's genitals), and is surrounded by animals from the fables. The tablet on the pedestal depicts the death of aesop (hurled from a cliff), and the shackles at the base represent his origin as a slave. Date: 1866.
