Finished drawing for pl 3 of 'industry and idleness' (1747), "the idle 'prentice at play in the church yard, during divine service"; scene outside a small church, congregation entering porch to left, in the centre, idle, lying on a tomb inscribed "the body [. . ]", playing hustle-cap (pitch and toss) with three figures, to right, the beadle with upraised cane, before the tomb, a grave and skulls and behind, a headstone bearing skull, cross-bones and an inscription "here lyeth the body of mary of [. . ] this parish" brush drawing in grey wash, with pen and ink (partly in brown ink), over black chalk or graphite; indented for transfer.
