His Royal Highness George Prince of Wales. &c., William Hogarth, 1720-1727 (c.)

Allegorical design in praise of george, prince of wales (later george ii); at right, an oval with a bust portrait of the prince, supported by hercules, at whose feet is a slain hydra of discord, and minerva; in the foreground right, peace sits holding an olive branch and extinguishing a torch on a shield; at left, three crowned graces, representing art, royal power, and trade, the last kneeling and gesturing to a shadowy pile of spoils; the first of the graces holds out a sceptre to the portrait across the body of hercules and over the hydra, and points to the spoils on the ground; mountains and water beyond at left.
