2. Hanging plan for the sanssouci picture gallery. The first hanging, published in 1764, included 146 paintings, which were hung in several rows above and next to each other in a so-called "baroque hanging". Through purchases, the number of paintings grew to almost 180 by the death of frederick the great in 1786. The west wing and the central domed hall contained works by rembrandt and his students, as well as the best artists of 17th-century flemish painting, primarily peter paul rubens, anthony van dyck and abraham van diepenbeeck (as attributed at the time). The east wing contained (as attributed at the time) works by the most outstanding representatives of the italian high renaissance and the baroque - including leonardo da vinci, raphael, titian, guido reni, carlo maratta, ciro ferri and andrea celesti.
