Marks, inscriptions, hallmarks: legend - on the front, bottom from left to right, printed in black ink, verses: "those whose mood accommodates / follows the rules of the times, / and wears a fashionable beard / do not seem inconstant to me. // on the contrary i imagine / that they must be praised highly / to have to take care of good looks, / and to always be clean. // if one does not have the head lauee, / the cutely curly hair, / and the pointed mustache, / of the ladies we are despised // we must therefore not neglect / to bring nature closer to art; stamp - on the front, bottom right, in red ink: "ville / de / paris" (cf. Lugt suppl. 2012c). Inventory number - on the reverse, lower left, in black ink: "g: 14042". Iconographic description: interior scene. A man has his mustache curled by his barber using an iron, after having been shaved. Water pitcher and shaving dish placed at the foot of the bed. The barber is helped by a young apprentice who prepares and passes the various utensils necessary for this toilet (brushes, combs, scissors and curling irons heated in a small stove placed on the table). Painting hanging on the wall on the right representing the myth of danae. Tapestries. 17th century fashion. 17th century furniture. Cityscape out the window.
