A Turkish boy responsible for pipe cleaning, Tschibuktschi., Elisabeth Baumann, between 1869 and 1881

The word tschibuktschi (the german way of spelling it), was used for servants in charge of pipe cleaning. Elisabeth jerichau baumann visited istanbul in 1869 and was given access to the grand vizier, mehemed ali. She described the incident in her book, brogede rejsebilleder (travel scenes in colour), from 1881. Object Type: painting. Date: between 1869 and 1881.
